Asus Taichi mengusung konsep yang cukup unik. Ia merupakan gabungan antara notebook dan tablet.
Asus mengambil langkah praktis dengan memasang dua layar kedua persis di belakang layar utama pada notebook ini. Alhasil, pengguna cukup menutup notebook saat ingin memfungsikan perangkat yang menggunakan sistem operasi Windows 8 tersebut sebagai tablet.
Layar kedua/eksternal Taichi memilki fitur touchscreen dan input stylus serta bisa diatur sebagai mirror dari display utama atau bekerja secara independen. Pengguna pun bisa menjalankan aplikasi berbeda melalui layar eksternal milik Taichi.
Taichi tersedia dalam dua ukuran layar, yaitu 13,3 inci dan 11,6 inci. Keduanya menggunakan jenis panel display Super IPS+ dengan resolusi 1920x1080.
Ketika ditutup, Taichi bekerja layaknya tablet Windows 8, lengkap dengan tombol-tombol fisik (volume, pengunci orientasi layar) di sekeliling layar eksternal-nya. Saat dibuka, Taichi berubah menjadi komputer notebook yang memiliki keyboard chiclet full-size dan trackpad.
Di dalamnya, Asus melengkapi Taichi dengan prosesor Intel Core-i7 Generasi Ketiga ("Ivy Bridge") dipadukan dengam RAM sebesar 4 GB. Untuk keperluan penyimpanan data digunakan SSD, sementara port I/O yang disediakan mencakup dua buah konektor USB 2.0, Micro HDMI, dan mini DisplayPort.
Menggunakan konsep yang cukup unik, notebook-tablet, Asus Taichi diganjar diganjar penghargaan "Taiwan Excellence Silver Award 2013" oleh pemerintah Taiwan.
Taiwan Excellence sendiri digagas dan diselenggarakan oleh Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA) dan memiliki misi mengampanyekan produk-produk TI Taiwan di Indonesia, India, Vietnam, dan tentunya di Taiwan sendiri.
Selain Asus, nama-nama perusahaan TI raksasa asal Taiwan lainnya, seperti Acer, BenQ, D-Link, dan Cyberlink, tergabung dalam kampanye tersebut.
